In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproductive technology (ART) treatment that has helped thousands of couples grow their families since it was first successfully performed in 1978. The procedure involves removing eggs from a woman’s uterus to be fertilized in an embryology lab with fresh or frozen sperm (from a partner or donor). The resulting embryos are cultured and transferred back into the uterus to achieve pregnancy.

IVF Success Rates at Nevada Fertility Center

Many patients may not be aware that a healthy 30-year-old woman has about a 20% chance of becoming pregnant each month through natural conception. In contrast, IVF success rates average around 40% nationally, though these vary substantially based on age, diagnosis, the number of embryos transferred, and other factors. At Nevada Fertility Center, we bring a proven record of helping patients achieve their dream of a family. Our lead reproductive endocrinologist, Dr. Russell Foulk, has run clinics in four states with top success rates of all programs nationwide. We are dedicated to helping you to understand your reason for infertility and determine a treatment plan that gives you the best chances of success.

Our IVF Process

At Nevada Fertility Center we provide patients with a personalized treatment plan that is designed to meet your individual needs and family-building goals. Our standard IVF treatment process includes the following steps:

  1. Preparation for the Cycle: Patients receive birth control medication for 1-month to control timing of cycle.

  2. Ovarian Stimulation: Patients are given hormone medications to stimulate follicle development to increase the number of eggs produced. Patients are closely monitored for 8-14 days and once hormones reach appropriate levels, a “trigger shot” (hCG) is administered to initiate the final phase of egg development.

  3. Egg Retrieval: The egg retrieval is scheduled the day after the trigger shot. This short procedure, performed in our state-of-the-art clinic, involves inserting a thin tube into the uterus using ultrasound guidance to retrieve eggs.

  4. Sperm Processing: Fresh or frozen sperm may be used and will be “washed” (or processed) using advanced laboratory techniques to isolate the best quality sperm for fertilization.

  5. Egg Fertilization: Eggs are then fertilized in our embryology lab either conventionally (by placing the egg and sperm in a dish to allow fertilization) or by injecting sperm directly into the egg (intracytoplasmic sperm injection or ICSI).

  6. Embryo Development & Selection: Embryo development is carefully monitored for 5 days and then the most viable blastocysts are selected for transfer. Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) is performed at this time for patients who choose this service. Remaining embryos can be frozen for future transfer attempts.

  7. Embryo Transfer: The embryo transfer is a quick procedure performed onsite at our clinic. Patients may experience minor discomfort and generally do not require anesthesia.

  8. Next Steps: Patients will receive a pregnancy test 10-12 days after the transfer. Patients who achieve pregnancy will schedule a follow-up visit and we will also schedule a consultation with patients who do not become pregnant to review your cycle in detail and discuss your options to continue treatment.

Additional Services

Depending on your diagnosis and treatment plan, you may choose to include add-on services as a part of your IVF cycle. These can include intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) to facilitate fertilization and preimplantation genetic testing (PGT). Our fertility specialists will work with you to determine if these options are right for you based on your personal preferences and needs.
